Samsung Galaxy’s fifth foldable phones to be priced higher than previous

The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5, set to be unveiled for the first time in South Korea on July 26, are projected to have a slightly higher price compared to the previous models.

According to industry sources on Friday, Samsung Electronics Co. has been still in negotiations with mobile carriers about final prices of the upcoming foldable models. However, the sources expect the prices to be higher than the previous ones, citing upward pressures on price.

The Flip 5 features a larger display twice the size of the Flip 4’s, with a slightly higher exchange rate compared to a year ago.

Dealabs, a France-based online magazine, expected that the ex-factory prices of Flip 5 would be €1,199 ($1,334) for 256GB and €1,339 ($1,490) for 512GB in France.

The prices are 20 percent higher than the previous Flip 4 lineups. Considering the tendency of Europe to set smartphone prices higher compared to other markets, the industry anticipates that the domestic ex-factory price in South Korea will likely increase by approximately 100,000 won ($78.18).

Samsung Electronics showed confidence in the improvements in quality, as evident in the new models.

In a recent article, Noh Tae-moon, President of the Mobile Experience (MX) Business Unit, highlighted that Flip 5’s simple yet sophisticated design achieved excellent usability and aesthetic beauty. “Even a seemingly minor change, such as a difference of a millimeter in thickness, showcases the advanced engineering and craftsmanship involved in creating the device,” he said.

The new product is said to incorporate a buttonless selfie function on the external display in the folded state, allowing users to take selfies from any angle without pressing the camera button. The innovative feature enhances the overall user experience.

Samsung Electronics is placing a strong emphasis on sensual design in its flip series and is expected to introduce more colorful options than before, enhancing the overall appeal of the product line.

According to SamMobile.com, an online information-sharing blog dedicated to Samsung Mobile devices, the Fold 5 will offer various color options, including Cream, Diamond, and Phantom Black. At the same time, Blue, Coral, and Platinum will be available exclusively online.

The domestic launch will commence in early August, one week after the unboxing event. During this time, pre-orders will be accessible on Samsung.com, various carriers, and open marketplaces.

The official launch is set to follow in the subsequent week.
