After driving some 70 miles east of Atlanta, the capital city of Georgia, a road named SK Boulevard comes into view.
The road, near SK Battery America, a U.S. battery subsidiary of SK On, has been renamed recently to include SK in a move to commemorate the company's investment in the state and dedication to creating jobs there.
As of July 1, the new name has been registered in map applications, alongside 911 and postal services, SK On said.
"We are going to present this sign to you to officially rename this section of Steve Reynolds Industrial Parkway to SK Boulevard on behalf of the City of Commerce and Jackson County," said Clark Hill, mayor of the City of Commerce, Georgia.
The name of the industrial complex where SK Battery America is located will also be changed to SK Battery Park from its current name of Commerce 85 Industrial Parkway. A sign will be installed at the highway exit of Interstate 85 that connects to SK Battery America within the second half of the year, according to SK On.
SK On is a battery subsidiary 100 percent owned by SK Innovation.
SK On has invested a total of $2.6 billion in Georgia, including building two battery plants in Commerce. Batteries produced at the plants are used in Ford F-150 Lightning pick-up trucks and Volkswagen ID.4.
SK Battery America has hired a total of 2,600 employees to date.
It is not the first time the Georgia state government has included SK in a road name. The government named a road in Covington, around 35 miles east of Atlanta, SKC Drive, commemorating the company's investment to build a polyester film plant in 1999.
