South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. swept 15 awards at the Visual Grand Prix Summer Awards 2023, the most prestigious awards in the field of video and sound in Japan, boasting its organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV technology.

According to the tech giant on Wednesday, LG Electronics’ OLED TV products, including OLED evo TV, collected 15 awards, including the Special Jury Prize and the Personal Visual Grand Prize, at the Visual Grand Prix.

The Visual Grand Prix is an annual audio-visual (AV) awards event held by Japanese AV media outlet Ongen Publishing Co., where a panel of experts and electronic store dealers select the award-winning products based on technological qualifications and consumer satisfaction.

LG OLED evo received the highest honor, the VGP Gold award, in the 60-to-70-inch and under-45-inch OLED TV categories, the company said.

The industry views it as significant for LG Electronics to be recognized for its technology in Japan that is dominated by local brands such as Sony Corp., Panasonic Holdings Corp., Toshiba Corp., and Sharp Corp.

LG Electronics has been actively promoting OLED TVs through collaborations with local retail companies such as Yodobashi Camera Co.

According to market research firm Omdia, LG Electronics’ market share in the Japanese OLED TV market based on shipments has risen to nearly 10 percent in the first quarter of this year from about 8 percent in 2020.
