State Duma approves bill banning gender reassignment in Russia

Russian lawmakers in the State Duma on 14 July, voted in favor of new legislation banning gender reassignment in Russia. The bill was passed in its third and final reading and bans 'medical interventions aimed at changing the sex of a person' and 'the state registration of a change of gender without an operation', the State Duma said in a statement, adding that only medical interventions related to the 'treatment of congenital anomalies, genetic and endocrine diseases associated with the impaired formation of the genital organs in children' will be allowed.
