Doosan, Hyundai, Daewoo to ink nuclear power MOUs with Polish firms

WARSAW, Poland — Korean companies are expected to formalize nuclear power collaborations with their Polish counterparts, taking the South Korean leader's official visit to the country as an opportunity, according to the senior presidential secretary on the economy on Thursday.

"Nuclear-related firms such as Doosan Enerbility, Hyundai Engineering and Construction and Daewoo Engineering and Construction are poised to sign six memoranda of understanding with Polish companies tomorrow," said Choi Sang-mok.

Sharing the view that nuclear power provides an "optimal" solution for energy security and carbon neutrality, President Yoon Suk Yeol and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda agreed to support private companies from both countries engaging in the construction of Polish nuclear power plants, he said.

Hyundai E&C is dedicated to the development and implementation of micro modular reactors in Poland, while Doosan Enerbility and Daewoo E&C commit to collaboration on the creation of new nuclear power plants.

South Korea and Poland have also decided to form a new vice-ministerial consultation body to discuss cooperation on Ukraine's reconstruction and foster the discovery of joint projects.

"From the second half of this year, we'll begin working on the Kyiv Smart City Master Plan with our assistance," Choi added.
