Thai electoral body says prime minister aspirant may have breached electoral law

epa10741054 Chaitawat Tulathon (C), secretary general of the Move Forward Party, speaks to the media at a news conference at the Parliament in Bangkok, Thailand, 12 July 2023, with the party's newly elected members for the House of Representatives. Thailand's Election Commission said on 12 July that it had discovered evidence that top prime ministerial contender Pita Limjaroenrat had broken election regulations, and that his case will be forwarded to the Constitutional Court to determine if he should be disqualified as a legislator. The news comes only one day before Thailand's next prime minister is to be elected by Parliament. The Election Commission opened an inquiry in June to investigate if Pita intentionally applied to be an MP candidate while holding shares in a media firm, which is prohibited under election regulations.
