Netflix original series “Celebrity” was the most-watched non-English TV show on Netflix for the week of July 3, the global streaming service said Wednesday.
“Celebrity,” a 12-episode drama starring actor Park Gyu-young, was released on the streaming service on June 30 and became the most-watched non-English TV show the following week, with 5.6 million total hours watched around the world.
The series also landed Top 10 in the TV category on Netflix in around 52 countries around the world, including France, Portugal, Japan and Singapore.
Starring Park, Lee Chung-ah, Kang Min-hyuk, Jun Hyo-seong and Lee Dong-gun, “Celebrity” surrounds an ordinary office worker Seo A-ri, played by Park, who becomes famous on social media overnight, entering the world of influencers and celebrities. A-ri soon finds out that not everything is bright in this world of likes, followers and subscribers, and she has to choose her own path.
Park said the show is “about the duality of social media and how deep it is in our lives” in a press conference for the series in June.
