Jhelum river water level recedes in Srinagar, easing fears of floods

The threat of flooding in Kashmir was averted on 09 July as the water level receded in the Jhelum river and other major water bodies of the region, while the 270-kilometre Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed due to the sinking of a large portion along the road at Chamba Seri Ramban in the Himalayan region. Over the past three days, Kashmir witnessed heavy rains and a subsequent increase in water levels in water bodies.
