The founder of Woowa Brothers, which operates Korea’s largest food delivery app Baedal Minjok, has stepped down from the top post.
Kim Bong-jin, Woowa Brothers' founder and chairperson of the board of directors, announced his resignation on Friday. Kim will also step down from his position as chairperson of Woowa DH Asia, the company’s Singaporean entity.
After the resignation, Kim will serve as an adviser to the company. Kim’s successor is yet to be decided.
“I will continue to stay connected to you as ‘an advisor’, and support your passionate endeavors moving forward,” Kim said in an email sent to the company’s employees on Friday.
“I also want to explore a new challenge in the design field,” he added.
Kim worked as a designer before starting the delivery app business in 2010.
The resignation came 13 years after the Baedal Minjok app was first introduced. Woowa Brothers was founded in 2011, around a year after the app’s debut.
Kim previously stepped down from his CEO position in February. He owns 8.35 percent of Woowa Brothers, according to the company’s regulatory filing published in March.
Baedal Minjok had 13.6 million monthly users on average over the past year, taking up the largest share in the food delivery service market, according to market tracker Mobile Index's data updated in June.
Woowa Brothers is expanding its portfolio into the delivery and server robot business, with the company establishing B-Robotics, a robotics subsidiary, in February. Woowa Brothers has operated a server robot rental service since 2019.
