South Korea’s fashion retailer LF Corp. said on Thursday that its popular items were wide denim pants, knee-length Denim Bermuda pants, and cargo denim jeans with unique lines.
Denim Bermuda pants was an inspiration from the cut-off uniform pants of British soldiers stationed in Bermuda during World War II.
Corner, the company’s women clothing brand, introduced a pair of slim Bermuda denim pants, which quickly sold out.
LF has led the denim trend by launching the New York Jeans label under its men’s clothing brand, Jill Stuart New York Men. Denim sales at Jill Stuart New York Men experienced a rise of 20 percent on year at the end of June on the back of the rising popularity of indigo cargo denim pants.
Studio Tomboy, a women’s fashion brand under Shinsegae International Inc., reported a remarkable growth of 200 percent on year in denim sales during the first half of this year.
In response to an anticipated surge in denim popularity, Studio Tomboy expanded its denim product lines by 40 percent compared to the previous year, and most of these items enjoyed a sell-through rate of over 70 percent, according to the company.
Shinsegae International said that such popularity of denim items is expected to continue into the second half of the year, as denim plays a key role in the retro fashion craze.
While the fashion industry has recently seen a wave of faded-color light blue jeans and miniskirts being released for the summer season, the second half of the year will witness a shift towards darker hues and unwashed dark denim pants. Denim bags and shoes are also in high demand.
As the weather gets hotter, denim products with enhanced cooling features and improved comfort are gaining popularity.
Musinsa Co., Korea’s leading online fashion platform, introduced Cool Standard Denim, designed to keep jeans cooler, and experienced an impressive 81 percent increase in sales during the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.
In the first half of the year, Musinsa Standard witnessed a 103 percent surge in denim pants sales and a staggering 275 percent increase in shirts and other tops made of denim.
