Srinagar's iconic Dal Lake battling pollution

A 2022 research using data from the Indian Space Research Organization?s (ISRO) LISS-IV instrument found that between 1980 and 2018, Srinagar?s famous Dal Lake shrunk in area by 25 per cent. The government is now putting in efforts to clean the water body and installed floating trash booms to skim off plastic and other solid wastes. In June 2023, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) made an announcement drawing attention to the worrying state of Dal Lake while releasing the satellite imagery that uncovered a disconcerting trend of decline in the water body over the past few years.
