Samsung Electronics Co. Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee, head of the Device Experience (DX) division, has declared that the company will no longer use paper documents for reporting and meetings, a move driven by the desire to cultivate a paperless work culture, reaping the benefits of environmental sustainability and cost-effectiveness.

“We will avoid paper-based reporting and meetings, except when absolutely necessary,” Han said in an email sent to all employees on Monday. “The role of each department leader, including executives, is crucial to the establishment of a paperless work culture, so I encourage all managers to lead by example.”

Samsung Electronics is actively promoting the “No Paper Workplace” campaign to foster a culture of working without paper.

“Let’s create a habit of making quick decisions via messenger or email and utilizing the digital devices available in meeting rooms for work,” he added.

Since declaring its new environmental management strategy in September last year, Samsung Electronics aims to actively participate in overcoming the climate crisis. The goal is not only to protect the environment but also to revolutionize and improve work culture in an innovative and efficient manner.

In this regard, Han said that “despite the fact that most work environments are already digitalized, we still find it difficult to abandon the practice of printing meeting materials on paper and relying on face-to-face interactions to confirm the contents of reports.”
