Sorbian parliament is suing German government over ultimatum of recognition as indigenous people

The Sorbian parliament, the 'Serbski Sejm' is suing the German government, as stated by representatives of the parliament together with a London law firm during a press conference. The background is a demand by the 'serbski sejm' that the Sorbs ethnic group be recognized as indigenous. It refers to ILO Convention 169, an international agreement intended to secure more co-determination for indigenous and tribal peoples.The German government had ratified this convention in 2021. The Sorbian parliament had even given the federal government an ultimatum until 23 June to recognize the Sorbs as indigenous peoples.
