In a galaxy of talented stars that shine in K-pop, birthdays are one of the biggest festivities for fans to get together and remember just how much they love their dearest artists. To add to the celebration, the Korea JoongAng Daily’s entertainment brand Celeb Confirmed will take votes from fans on their favorites from stars born in the respective month and dive into their careers, achievements and more in the newest series Birthday Bios. As the first winner of Celeb Confirmed’s K-pop birthday vote, Jaehan of boy band Omega X took the No. 1 place with a whopping 72 percent of ballots cast on fans’ favorite among July-born stars.
Leader and main vocalist of boy band Omega X, Jaehan was born on July 1, 1995, as the youngest of three siblings in a neighborhood called Geumgok-dong in Busan. His parents planned to name him Kim Jae-hwan before he was born, but his grandfather insisted it be Kim Jae-han, which became his name.
Jaehan is known for his perseverance that got him through years of hardship that started well before debuting as an Omega X member in 2021.
He took his first step into K-pop as J-han of pop duo One Voices in 2015, which unfortunately disbanded in just seven months. His second chance came with the second season of Mnet’s “Produce 101” audition program, where he started gaining popularity worldwide.
His second boy band came in 2018 under the name Spectrum which disbanded in July 2020 due to “difficulties brought on by Covid-19,” according to agency Wynn Entertainment.
It was in 2021 that he made his true comeback with 10 other members of Omega X — Hwichan, Sebin, Hangyeom, Taedong, Xen, Jehyun, Kevin, Junghoon, Hyuk and Yechan — who all stuck through the turmoil that took over the band in November 2022.
A video went viral of Omega X members being abused by staff at their former agency, Spire Entertainment, leading to a revelation of ongoing malpractice that ail the K-pop industry.
Jaehan has been well-known for his music composing skills since his days at Spectrum. He also recently took part in a web drama series, “A Shoulder to Cry On,” along with member Yechan, distributed on domestic online streaming platforms Wavve, Tving and Watcha in March.
