(MHNSPORTS Hyeonha Jeong reporter) The drama 'The Idol,' which became the talk of the town in Korea, is ending early.
According to the U.S. media Deadline on the 26th(local time), 'The Idol' will end first season with the fifth episode on July 2. Originally planned with six episodes, 'The Idol' is known to have changed into a five-episode series after replacement of a director.
'The Idol,' which was produced by The Weeknd and was directed by Sam Levinson who was well-received as the drama Euphoria, emerged as an expected HBO drama even before it was aired and also, was invited to the Cannes. Contrary to expectations, however, after the first episode was released, the drama was embroiled in controversy over suggestive scene and received a lot of harsh criticism.
In the first episode, especially, the scene which BLACKPINK Jennie, who plays Diane, backup dancer and a friend of Jocelyn, continued her suggestive expression and choreography reminiscent of sexual behaviour super-close with men was caught up in controversy in Korea.
On June 13, The Weekend, the producer, remarked the controversy of 'The Idol' in an interview with Magazine GQ.
In an interview, he said, "I really like the reaction of 'The Idol'. It certainly seems to have shaken the culture. "We have faithfully showed what we want to say, although it is controversial."
