Posco Group is taking the lead in preserving biodiversity under its environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) management. The group’s ESG Committee convenes every quarter, aiming for group-wide sustainable practices as well as biodiversity conservation.

Posco is actively taking the lead in restoring the marine ecosystem, including creating sea forests and collecting marine waste. Along with the Research Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (RIST), Posco developed artificial reef Triton and installed about 7,000 tritons in domestic waters from 2010 to 2021.

Posco E&C has been promoting the urban beekeeping project titled “BEES NEEDS” with the Gwacheon National Science Museum as an activity for the reproduction of bees as well as for future generations. Aiming to deliver messages regarding bee protection as part of its ESG practices, it held a children’s bee festival titled “Happy Bee’s Day” to mark World Bee Day.

As its global businesses are protecting the ecosystem, Posco Holdings acquired a salt lake in Argentina and is currently speeding up lithium commercialization while commencing the first stage of a salt water lithium factory in Argentina. It also joined the TaskForce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), a global framework for biodiversity-related information disclosure, with the aim to strengthen preservation activities near its business sites.

Posco International has been certified RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) for its sustainable palm oil business operated by PT. Bio Inti Agrindo (Pt. BIA), a 34,195-hectare-sized palm oil company running in Papua in the eastern region of Indonesia. RSPO aims to reduce the negative impact of palm oil, and Posco International was recognized for its eco-friendly business internationally.

Posco International also contributes to greenhouse gas reduction by conducting mangrove forestation in Taman Wisata Alam Mangrove in Indonesia, which greatly absorbs carbon dioxide.
