Hundreds of South Korean businesses, including the top five conglomerates, were seen at the country’s first World Climate Industry EXPO that kicked off in the country’s coastal city of Busan on Thursday, presenting their latest technologies and products that help reduce carbon emissions.

Visitors to Samsung Electronics Co.’s booth at the event hosted by 25 organizations including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy were stunned by some artworks produced by famous artists that were presented along the entry. The works were made of reused plastic materials from its own products, showing its vision towards sustainability.

“The government plans to provide every policy support so that companies can realize carbon neutrality and grow based on the climate industry,” said Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

Samsung Electronics also displayed air conditioners and refrigerators in which artificial intelligence (AI) technology helps reduce power consumption and also washing machines that apply micro-plastic reduction technology.

Through monitors, the tech giant also introduced chip processing that uses water resources and reused waste that help reduce pollutants.

Korean battery manufacturer Samsung SDI Co. shared the positive effect of planting 100 million trees. It introduced technologies that replace fossil fuel, such as batteries for vehicles and renewable energy storage system (ESS).

Six units under Korea’s second-largest conglomerate SK Group participated in the EXPO that will take place until May 27. The conglomerate showed a wide range of technologies from hydrogen to renewable energy, carbon capture and electric vehicle waste battery recycling.

SK innovation Co. displayed the NCM9 battery its subsidiary SK on Co. is supplying for the electric truck Ford 150. The battery, which was developed for the first time in the world by SK on, has nickel content of nearly 90 percent and contains less cobalt.

The battery manufacturer also grabbed visitors’ attention with its Super Fast Battery, an electric vehicle battery with the fastest charging speed. The battery can charge up to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

The booth arranged by Korea’s auto giant Hyundai Motor Group grabbed much attention from the visitors with its 3.7-meter-high, 7-meter-long water sprinkler truck that runs on hydrogen fuel cells. The truck can load 6,400 liters of liquid and sprinkle 1,000 liters of water in just one minute.

Hyundai Motor Group displayed various environmentally-friendly products such as the country’s first large-size electric sport utility vehicle EV9 and hydrogen fuel cell multicopter drone.

Hyundai Mobis Co., the auto parts maker under Hyundai Motor Group, introduced M.Vision 2Go, a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle for short-distance delivery.

LG Electronics Inc. showcased a number of high energy-efficient home appliances including washing machines, dryers, air conditioners and water purifiers.

Global names, including Google, Samsung, SK, Germany’s RWE, Volkswagen and Exxon Mobil, that are at the front in responding to climate change issues, also sat down together to discuss their roles and partnerships in achieving carbon neutrality.
