Gwangju will host the first Gwangju International Students Day event on Sunday.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Jungwoe Park in Buk District, Gwangju.

Universities in Gwangju will set up booths to introduce their curricula to visitors, also providing admissions consulting to students interested in applying. International student councils of various Gwangju-based universities will also set up booths and meet visitors.

International students who passed the preliminary round of the Gwangju International Students Talent Show will also perform at the event.

Artworks and videos created by international students and submitted to this year's Gwangju Biennale will be exhibited as well.

According to the city, Gwangju currently hosts some 5,000 international students from countries such as China, Vietnam, Mongolia, Japan, France and the United States.

"Hosting the Gwangju International Students Day event for the first time this year, we hope international students will be able to feel at home even at Gwangju and want to introduce the city to their friends at home," the city's head of women, family and education bureau, Kim Sun-ok, said.

"We will do our best to support international students so more of them will choose to come to Gwangju."
