Singer-songwriter IU donated 250 million won ($187,000) to organizations in need, in celebration of her birthday, her agency EDAM Entertainment announced Tuesday.
“The things I’ve learned from Uaena, the things I felt through Uaena, and the things I received from Uaena is the ingredient to what makes IU move. I love you, thank you very much,” said IU in a press release.
Uaena is IU’s fan club name. IU donated with the name “IUUaena,” a combination of her stage name and the name of her fan club.
IU donated 50 million won to The Happiness Foundation in support of children from one-parent families, 50 million won to the Korean Unwed Mothers Families Association in support of single mothers and families, 50 million won to the Support Center for the Elderly Living Alone and 100 million won to the Heart Heart Foundation in support of children and families suffering from poverty, disabilities and diseases.
The singer-songwriter has been donating periodically to a variety of charities in need. She donated 100 million won on May 5, Children’s Day, to the Child Fund in support of children in need.
IU also collaborated with cafes around the country, providing coffee and drinks to fan club members for free, to celebrate her birthday which falls on May 16.
