“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” surpassed 2 million in ticket sales on Sunday. It took the film just 18 days to reach the milestone.
According to the Korea Box Office Information System (Kobis), the film has garnered an audience of 2,063,197 in Korea as of Monday.
Based on Nintendo’s popular console game Super Mario, the film was produced hand-in-hand with animation studio Illumination and centers on Mario going on an adventure to save his younger brother, Luigi.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” topped the Korean box the first weekend after its release on April 26 and was the second-most popular film during the Children’s Day weekend earlier this month.
