Saudi Arabia invites Syrian President Bashar Assad to Arab summit in Jeddah

According to the Syrian President's office, al-Assad received during the meeting an invitation from Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz to attend the upcoming Arab League summit scheduled in Jeddah on 19 May. The invitation comes three days after Arab League foreign ministers held an emergency meeting in Cairo and agreed on the possibility of restoring the Syrian membership into the organization for the first time since it was suspended after the 2011 war in Syria.
