Disney's live-action musical film "The Little Mermaid" will be released on May 24, distributor Walt Disney Company Korea announced on Friday.
Based on the feature-length animation film of the same name released by Walt Disney Company in 1989, the film will follow Ariel, a mermaid living in the sea, who falls in love with a human, Prince Eric.
The Little Mermaid will be played by Halle Bailey, a singer. It is the first time in Disney history that a person of color plays the role of an originally white princess.
Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric, while Melissa McCarthy plays Ursula, and Simone Ashely plays Indira.
Director Rob Marshall, who directed "Chicago" (2003), "Memoirs of a Geisha" (2006) and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" (2011), directed “The Little Mermaid.”
