The SSG Landers on Thursday signed former big league pitcher Roenis Elias on a $540,000 deal covering the rest of the season, replacing Enny Romero who has been out with a shoulder injury since spring training.
Elias made his major league debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2014 and has also played for the Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals. He has a 22-24 big league line after 133 appearances and 54 starts, with a career 3.96 ERA.
This season, Elias has been pitching for the minor league Iowa Cubs, recording a 5.48 ERA over four starts, as well as representing Korea at the World Baseball Classic in March.
Elias is the second former Mariners member to join the Landers this season, reuniting with his old teammate outfielder Guillermo Heredia.
As of press time Thursday, the reigning champion Landers are in second place with 16 wins and 10 losses so far this season.
