Journalists work on World Press Freedom Day in Sanaa

About 119 newspapers and magazines across Yemen have been closed since 2015 when the war broke out between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed Yemeni government, the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate (YJS) reported on 03 May 2023 on the World Press Freedom Day. Only 13 newspapers are still publishing, including five in Sana'a and eight in the southern Yemeni cities of Aden and Taiz, the YJS added. More news website have been blocked by both warring parties in the Arab country. The World Press Freedom Day is annually marked on 03 May, to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom, defend the media from attacks and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives while performing their professional duties.
