Bamboo carbide cannon competition in Bogor

The carbide cannon events are often staged as a local tourist attraction, especially after or during the Muslim Eid holidays. The cannons are usually made of bamboo wood or coconut trees and are then tied tight with a rope or bamboo fibres so that they do not burst or move when they are fired. A carbide cannon is usually between five and nine meters long with a hollowed out bore to iignite a fire inside which than makes a thumping sound.
