Hotel Shilla and Shinsegae DF have been designated to operate duty free shops in Incheon International Airport's sections DF 1 and 2, respectively, which sell perfume, cosmetics, liquor and cigarettes.
Small-and-middle-sized operators Kyung Bok Kung Duty Free and City Plus will operate in DF 8 and DF 9, which does not restrict operators on what products they can sell, according to the Korea Customs Service on Wednesday.
The organization said review criteria included operators’ attempt to reduce commissions given to travel agencies for bringing tourists to the shops.
Operators participating in the bid promised to improve malpractices such as promoting excessive discounts and commissions given to travel agencies.
Final bidders for sections DF 3, 4 and 5, earmarked for fashion shops and boutiques, will be announced Thursday.
Designated operators attain licenses to operate at the airport for 10 years from July 1.
