Lee Nak-yon (Lee Nak-yeon), former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced the publication of his book on April 26 and said, “Spontaneous diplomacy without ample consideration can cause risky insecurity.”

On Wednesday, Lee Nak-yon wrote on social media, “I wrote a book. I studied foreign policy strategies for the Republic of Korea to survive a chaotic era of a major transition,” and mentioned that the book was the result of his research after he left to study at George Washington University in the U.S. last June.

Lee introduced his book, Survival Strategy for the Republic of Korea: Lee Nak-yon’s Ideas and said, “The post-Cold War era is ending and a new Cold War between the U.S. and China is becoming a reality.” He claimed that the Republic of Korea was facing an unprecedented crisis, where hard-earned peace and prosperity were being threatened simultaneously. Lee continued and said, “The Republic of Korea needs a new strategy for survival. I recorded my observations and ideas on this subject in this book.”

Lee argued that spontaneous diplomacy lacking sufficient consideration could cause risky apprehension, an argument that appeared to criticize the Yoon Suk-yeol government’s handling of foreign relations. On April 20, after President Yoon Suk-yeol’s interview with Reuters was released, in which he mentioned the possibility of supplying weapons to Ukraine, Lee wrote on social media, “The diplomacy of the Yoon Suk-yeol government is dangerous. It is because he is not aware of the geopolitical fate of South Korea.” He further argued, “President Yoon’s interview with Reuters caused serious insecurity. To what extent will South Korea be able to bear such mistakes. What’s more, the current international political situation is threatening the survival of South Korea.”
