Samsung SDI Co., South Korea’s third-largest maker of electric vehicle batteries, said on Tuesday that it will showcase advanced battery technologies targeting the Chinese market at the Auto Shanghai 2023, the largest motor show in China.

The company is using a private booth for its clients at the exhibition, which will be held in Shanghai from April 18 to 27, to introduce its latest battery solutions and products.

One of the main products that Samsung SDI will unveil is the P6, a sixth-generation prismatic battery, which incorporates high-nickel, cobalt and aluminum as well as silicon-carbon nanocomposite technologies, increasing the nickel content of the cathode to 91 percent and improving the energy density by more than 10 percent compared with P5.

In addition, the battery features fast charging technology that allows it to charge up to 80 percent in just 10 minutes. Samsung SDI plans to mass produce the P6 starting next year.

Another featured product from Samsung SDI is a cylindrical battery with a diameter of 46mm, which maximizes performance by increasing its size compared to conventional cylindrical batteries.

Samsung SDI will also introduce its roadmap for solid-state batteries that are set to begin mass production in 2027. The company plans to complete its solid-state battery pilot line at its Suwon research center within the first half of this year for prototype production.

The company will also debut its battery brand PRiMX for the Chinese market.

The company has been strengthening its capabilities in the Chinese market. It recently established a research center in Shanghai, which aims to enhance its technologies through cooperation with Chinese universities and research institutions.
