The release date for “Triangle of Sadness,” which won the Palme d’Or at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, has been set for domestic theaters in Korea. The satirical black comedy by Swedish director Ruben Östlund will be released on May 17.
“Triangle of Sadness” was first screened locally at the Busan International Film Festival last year, receiving rave reviews. The film is divided into three parts, each dealing with a new development regarding a set of characters played by an ensemble cast led by American actor Woody Harrelson. The central plot revolves around characters on a luxury cruise with wealthy guests.
The film currently has a rating of 72 percent from 262 reviews on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Multiple outlets including Empire and Forbes has called “Triangle of Sadness” the “funniest film of the year.”
The film stars late actor Charlbi Dean, Dolly de Leon, Zlatko Buric and Iris Berben along with Harrelson in an ensemble cast.
