LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo on Tuesday encouraged employees that developed new services and products for the satisfaction of customers and applauded them with awards at a corporate event in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.

“The awards are designed to recognize small yet significant customer experiences that create a new value for LG Group,” Koo said, at the 2023 LG Awards event held at LG Inhwawon on Tuesday.

The annual awards are granted to LG employees that create greater customer value by introducing innovative products, technology, and services in the year.

Five teams at LG were given the best “Customer Satisfaction Award.”

Among them was an anti-pest solution team from Farm Hannong Co., an agrochemical unit of LG Chem Co. The award-winning team developed biological pest control products to support farms hit by fire blight, a contagious disease that affects trees. The disease weakens trees by making the leaves and trunk turn black in color, causing the affected trees to die soon after infection. Many farms have suffered from the disease, which is contagious and costly, without any pest control suitable for the disease. The estimated damages caused by the disease amounted to 270 billion won ($253.2 million) as of last year.

In response, Farm Hannong developed the country‘s first bio pest solution against fire blight to address the problem.

“I feel a sense of achievement for helping suffering customers and bringing greater happiness to them,” said Oh Tae-hyun, a director at Farm Hannong.

Other winners were Senior Researcher Park Se-ra and Senior Manager Kang Seok-hwan from the Customer Value Innovation Office of LG Electronics Inc., who set up an advisory panel to address the pain points of customers with disabilities. They came up with a sticker in braille that customers with disabilities can attach to home appliances.

The rest of the winners include engineers from LG Display Co., who developed display products with higher resolution and lower power consumption, and a team of employees from LG Chem, which launched an eco-friendly production system for materials. Nam Ki-woong, a senior manager at LG Energy Solution Ltd., was recognized for improving the battery efficiency of laptops in collaboration with laptop manufacturers.

The judging panel was of 17 young consumers.

“I got impressed by their commitments to solving trivial yet somehow painful inconveniences facing customers in daily life,” one jury member said.
