KT's only CEO candidate has offered to step down from the candidacy during a meeting with the company’s board of directors, according to local media outlets.
Yun Kyoung-lim, who was named as the final and only candidate for the top post by the KT board committee on Mar. 7, reportedly offered to resign from the candidacy.
KT’s board members are trying to dissuade Yun from bowing out, according to local media reports.
KT did not confirm the report, saying that it is currently looking into the matter.
KT is scheduled to select its next CEO during a general shareholder meeting in late March.
The company reopened the CEO race twice before naming Yun as the final candidate, due to criticism from its largest shareholder National Pension Service citing unfairness during the candidate selection process.
