20 years after the Iraq invasion, Abu al-Hasan still feels ashamed to had believed the US

Abu Al-Hassan was seriously injured in his left arm on 06 April 2003 by US fire near Baghdad International Airport. Witnessing the US troops entering Baghdad, Abu al-Hasan assumed that former president Saddam Hussein's 24-year tyranny had come to an end and that Iraq would be a free country. But the American artillery attacks caused his left arm to be shattered, as were his hopes for a better life. "I thought that my injury was the price of freedom, because in the end freedom never comes for free. After 20 years, I am very ashamed to believe that American forces came to free us. The Americans told us a big lie, occupied, destroyed Iraq and left thousands of Iraqi victims," he says. EPA/AHMED JALIL
