Syrians of Idlib mark the 12th anniversary of the uprising

Today, 15 March, marks 12 years from the uprising in Syria, which the UN says has brought unfathomable destruction, left more than 6.2 million displaced people, more than 80 percent of Syrians living in poverty, and 60 percent at risk of hunger. The UN Syria Commission of Inquiry said in report released on 13 March 2023 that parties involved in the conflict continued decade-long pattern of failures to protect Syrian civilians, committing widespread human rights violations and abuses in the months leading up to the 06 February earthquake. According to UN estimates, some five million people require basic shelter and non-food assistance in the Syrian part of the earthquake zone, while already before the earthquakes, over 15 million Syrians - more than at any point since the start of the conflict - needed humanitarian assistance.
