Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) won a contract for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers at a record high price.
DSME announced Tuesday it has won a 679.4 billion-won ($519 million) contract for two LNG carriers from Greek shipper Maran Gas Maritime, a subsidiary of the Angelicoussis Group.
The latest order for one LNG carrier with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters priced at $256.25 million has set a record price, the shipbuilder said.
The LNG vessels will be built at the Okpo Shipyard in Geoje, South Gyeongsang, and will be delivered in the first half of 2027.
Angelicoussis Group booked orders for a total of 121 ships at DSME since its first contract in 1994. This is the world’s highest record based on the number of orders placed between a single shipbuilder and a single shipper, the company said. The group ordered in total 11 LNG carriers from DSME since 2021.
