Afghan women turn to carpet weaving for economic opportunities

Afghan women and girls have turned to the carpet weaving and carpet making industry due to restrictions imposed by the Taliban government, leaving them with limited opportunities for education and employment. More than 2600 women and girls are working in a carpet factory, with some working in the factory and the rest at home in order to earn money for their families. The workers are unsatisfied with their situation, and demand attention from the Taliban government, to open the gates of schools and universities to girls and provide more work fields for women in different parts of society. International Women's Day (IWD) is observed annually on 08 March worldwide to highlight women's rights, as well as issues such as violence and abuse against women. EPA/SAMIULLAH POPAL
