The future of the coin industry depends on the power of planning products, according to Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating (Komsco) CEO Bahn Jahng-Shick.

“The coin industry is gradually falling and the crisis is accelerating amid global economic recession,” said Bahn at the opening address of the International Mint Directors Network (IMDN) held in Berlin on Feb. 4.

“Innovation of creating a new market through the development of new products and joint planning using technological cooperation and network usage among global coin institutions is needed.”

The forum was attended by 41 institutions from 38 countries to review their planned activities for the year, according to Komsco on Friday.

Bahn cited the success of medals commemorating K-pop boy band BTS and football player Son Heung-min.

Bahn shared ideas and technologies on the coin business in a separate meeting with Yamana Norio, president of Japan Mint. They vowed to regularly meet to strengthen the network.
