A Man Kidnaps His Ex-lover after She Reported Him for Dating Violence and Confesses to “Doing Drugs Together”

The police captured a man in his twenties who kidnapped and confined his ex-girlfriend, after she reported him to the police for dating violence.

On February 13, the Gwanak Police Station in Seoul announced that the police arrested and were questioning A, a twenty-something male, and his friend B, an accomplice who provided the vehicle, for joint confinement based on the Punishment of Violences Act.

According to the police, the two men went to the house of C, A’s ex-girlfriend, at around 1:50 a.m. Sunday. They told her they were going to get some things A had left at her home and when C opened the door to hand over the items, they pulled her out of the house and locked her in the car.

They cut the strap of a smartwatch C was wearing and threw the watch in a nearby flowerbed. C had received the watch from the police after she reported A for dating violence.

The two men drove from Gangnam-gu to Gwanak-gu, Seoul for nearly forty minutes with C in the car. During that time, they interrogated her on why she had reported A for dating violence.

The Gangnam Police Station received C’s report and identified the vehicle’s location and movement and requested the cooperation of nearby police stations. The police arrested B on a street in Bongcheon-dong, Gwanak-gu about an hour later at 2:46 a.m. that day. A, who had fled, was also arrested in a residential area in Bongcheon-dong about thirty minutes later.

During the police investigation, A confessed that he injected Philopon along with C. The two tested positive for the drug in a quick screening.

At 11 p.m. Sunday, the police requested an arrest warrant for the two men on charges of jointly confining another person and for damaging objects for public use based on the Punishment of Violences Act. The suspect questioning prior to the arrest (arrest warrant review) for A and B will be held at the Seoul Central District Court at 3:30 p.m. Monday.

A police representative announced, “We plan to investigate the drug case separately from the kidnapping and confinement case.”
