South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility Co. signed a binding framework agreement with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy S.A., a global leader in wind power solutions, for a strategic partnership in South Korea’s offshore wind market.

The framework agreement, which follows a memorandum of understanding signed in June, covers three areas for knowledge exchange on technology where the two companies will collaborate closely in South Korea. Doosan will assemble Siemen’s offshore wind turbine nacelles at a Doosan facility, undertake turbine assembly and offshore construction of projects using Siemen machines, and perform offshore service.

“Both of us being companies with our own offshore wind turbine models and solid track record, we aim to cooperate on broadening our participation in the Korean offshore wind power market and actively pursue promotion of the domestic offshore wind power ecosystem,”said Park Hongook, chief executive officer of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business. “Through this partnership, Doosan looks forward to boosting its competitiveness across the overall offshore wind power sector through measures, such as the upgrading of existing products and diversification of models.”

Siemens Gamesa, a subsidiary of Siemens Energy in Germany, has a variety of offshore wind power models ranging from 6-megawatt direct drive to 14MW, and ranks first in the global offshore wind power market. Doosan Enerbility started its wind power business in 2005 and leads the South Korean domestic offshore wind energy market.
