South Korean companies from information technology (IT) giants to startups are reviewing the utilization of ChatGPT as the advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot trained by OpenAI emerges as a popular application with 100 million users after its launch two months ago.

According an analysis by Maeil Business Newspaper, Samsung SDS Co. and POSCO ICT Co. are reviewing to introduce ChatGPT features to their Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solution that has been growing popular in the corporate world with the maximum 52-hour workweek law.

Financial companies utilizing POSCO ICT’s RPA can reduce operation hours through automation of 250 work tasks such as checking major derivative trading on a real-time basis. RPA is a conversational intelligent business automation tool that uses AI technologies for routine work.

“Integrating ChatGPT function with RPA will allow employees to use the RPA system through interaction in everyday language, even if they are bad with computers,” said an unnamed official from POSCO ICT. “We are considering forging partnership with a global innovative firm other than U.S. OpenAI.”

Bespin Global, a cloud-based software as a service (SaaS) company, launched HelpNow AI, an AI chatbot based on GPT, late last year. It is an advanced service based on the previous version of GPT 3.5 by OpenAI. It is a SaaS AI chatbot in a monthly subscription.

“HelpNow AI can produce real-time, human-like conversations,” said an unnamed official from Bespin Global. “It helps clients to use more advanced chatbot and voicebot.”

Korean AI solution startup Upstage also released A sk up, a combination of ChatGPT and its own Optical character recognition (OCR) technology, and applied the AI service to physical workplaces. The AI intern reads and links information in the images to the question for an answer.

Wider Planet Inc., an advertising company, is also considering applying ChatGPT function to the advertisement industry. The utilization will help automate ad operation and accounting management.

“ChatGTP may suggest ad copies suitable for each product and circumstance,” said Chung Su-dong, chief technology officer at Wider Planet. “This technology can be used to improve work efficiency and automate work processes in the ad industry.”

Some companies are working on advancing generative AI.

Keewit, the first Korean AI writing editor developed by Two Block AI, registered the patents for two of its underlying technologies of generative AI in 2019. One of the patents involves a chatbot service specific to a topic, which enables the generative AI to quickly understand the contexts in long conversations.

Korean internet giant Naver Corp. has also unveiled a new vision last week of introducing a search GPT in the first half of this year to offer a new search experience to users.
