Lee Do-woon, a former editorial writer for Munhwa Ilbo, was named as President Yoon Suk Yeol’s spokesperson.
The position has been vacant for five months since Kang In-sun, former spokesperson, became president’s foreign press spokesperson.
Deputy spokesperson Lee Jae-myoung resigned last month after taking responsibility for a leak related to President Yoon’s trip to the United Arab Emirates and Davos.
The new spokesperson majored in politics and diplomacy at Yonsei University and started his career as a reporter at Seoul Shinmun in 1990.
In 2017, he was the spokesperson for former United Nation’s Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who announced his run for presidency that year.
