Girl group STAYC is releasing a Korean version of its Japanese debut song "Poppy" at 6 p.m. on Friday, according to its agency High Up Entertainment on the same day.
The quirky pop song in Japanese was released last November as a single. It ranked seventh on Japan's Orion Chart and 10th on the Line Music Chart upon release.
It also sparked the #poppychallenge on Tiktok where people recorded themselves dancing to the group's choreography for a few seconds of the song. Fans as well as K-pop acts including NewJeans, Le Sserafim, Red Velvet and NCT Dream, actors such as Cha Tae-hyun, and various social media influencers participated in the challenge. The original challenge video by STAYC members has over 10 million views as of Friday.
The new Korean version of "Poppy" is part of the group's upcoming fourth EP "Teddy Bear," set for release on Feb. 14.
"Teddy Bear" will be the group's first new album in seven months after its last EP "We Need Love" (2022).
STAYC is a six-member girl group that debuted in November 2020. The group consists of members Sumin, Sieun, Isa, Seeun, Yoon and J. The name stands for "Star to a Young Culture." The group has been maintaining a concept that is reminiscent of Y2K fashion, along with music and choreography that steals the hearts of teenagers with songs like “So Bad” (2020), “ASAP” (2021), “Stereotype” (2021) and “RUN2U” (2022).
