With the newly launched Galaxy S23 series, Samsung Electronics aims to take smartphone photography to the next level by enabling astrophotography in starry night conditions.
Samsung unveiled a trio of Galaxy S23 devices on Feb.1 and gave an early look to reporters Thursday.
The S23 Ultra introduces a new Astro Hyperlapse mode that allows photographers to use 300x zoom and time-lapse photography to create stunning star trail videos.
The phone's Nightography feature allows better photography in low-light conditions — no more blurry and grainy pics.
The S23 Ultra includes a 200-megapixel camera sensor, a major improvement over the previous 108 megapixels. In the trial, photos taken with the 200MP setting show little or no background noise even when zoomed in.
In some early demos by tech YouTubers, the Ultra displayed some lags when shooting in 200-megapixel mode, but the Thursday trial showed no such delay.
