Red Velvet records first million-selling album, 'Birthday'

Girl group Red Velvet recorded its first million-selling album with its latest EP, “Birthday” (2022), its agency SM Entertainment said on Wednesday.
A total of 1,029,463 albums were sold from Nov. 28, the day of its release, until Jan. 20. The EP had already reached 712,187 pre-orders before it dropped, a record for the group.
The title track "Birthday" also topped music charts in and outside of Korea, reaching No. 1 in 47 regions on the iTunes Top Album Charts, and on the Worldwide iTunes Album Charts, including Canada, Ukraine, Brazil and Portugal.
Red Velvet debuted in 2014 and consists of five members: Irene, Wendy, Seulgi, Joy and Yeri. It is best known for hits such as “Ice Cream Cake” (2015), “Russian Roulette” (2016), “Red Flavor” (2017), “Power Up” (2018) and “Queendom” (2021).
