Electricity was restored in major part of Pakistan on 24 January morning after a major power outage caused a blackout across the country, including in the capital Islamabad and financial hub of Karachi. Energy Ministry spokesperson Sohail Atiq said power generating plants started shutting down one by one on 23 January due to some frequency variation and voltage fluctuation in the south of the country. Pakistan is facing a severe economic crisis that led the government to recently approve a new energy conservation plan to reduce consumption.
