Juventus were deducted 15 points for the current Serie A season on Friday after a legal case about alleged inflated transfer fees was reopened by an Italian court.
Juventus was among 11 clubs initially accused and later acquitted of fixing their balance sheets by inflating transfer prices, but the case against Juventus was reopened following an appeal from federal prosecutors sighting new evidence from a separate investigation into Juventus' finances.
With the penalty, Juventus drop from third place in Serie A to 10th, falling from 37 points to 22 points. The penalty also removes one of the biggest threats to current Serie A leaders Napoli, who now sit 25 points higher on the table.
The ruling could have unexpected ramifications for Tottenham Hotspur as well. Alongside the 15-point penalty, former Juventus president Andrea Agnelli was banned from Italian football for two years and former director of football Fabio Paratici was banned for 30 months.
Paratici, now the director of football for Tottenham Hotspur, is currently only banned from Italian football, but the Italian football federation have asked for that ban to be extended to UEFA and FIFA.
If the ban is successful, Paratici, one of the most important figures at Tottenham Hotspur, would not be allowed to work.
Juventus intend to appeal the punishment.
