South Korean police on Thursday raided the offices of construction unions affiliated with the country’s two biggest labor groups for alleged involvement in illegal activities at construction sites.

Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency sent investigators to five construction union offices affiliated with the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) and to three offices affiliated with the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) Thursday morning to secure investigation documents.

The police has also sent investigators to homes of 8 union members.

The police launched an investigation on suspicions that the two union organizations have been engaged in illegal activity such as by forcing employers to hire certain employees or asking for rewards in return for jobs.
