The San Marcos University becomes a shelter for protesters in Lima

The National University of San Marcos, the oldest on the continent, became the shelter for anti-government protesters who arrived in the capital from different departments of the country for the march called on 19 January in Lima. On 14 January the Peruvian government declared a state of emergency for 30 days in the capital city of Lima and in three other states, as the country faces anti- government demonstrations and clashes since 07 December 2022, that left at least 49 people dead.
