David and Jean tend to 10 bee hives; 9 of which are on other peoples properties. 5 of them are in the nearby sub- urban houses in Johannesburg. From these hives they harvest honey that is sold in nearby shops. Bee populations have been declining globally over recent decades due to habitat loss, intensive farming practices, changes in weather patterns and the excessive use of agrochemicals such as pesticides.
