Two Koreans were aboard a plane that crashed in Nepal on Sunday.

The Korean Embassy in Nepal confirmed that two Koreans were on the Yeti Airlines flight that crashed in Pokhara on Sunday, said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.

"We are still checking whether our citizens are alive," it said.

The plane, carrying 72 people, was flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara, a destination for Everest climbers, when it crashed on a hill along the Seti River in Pokhara. At least 40 people were reportedly killed.

Reuters reported the passengers included one Argentinian, one Australian, one French, five Indians, one Irish, four Russians and two South Koreans.

Rescue work by Nepali authorities was ongoing as of Sunday. Part of the wreck was reported to be on a hill near a gorge, with some parts fallen into the gorge.

Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal called for an emergency cabinet meeting after the crash.
