Blackpink was nominated for the International Group of the Year in 2023 at The BRIT Awards, becoming the first K-pop girl group to be nominated at the prestigious ceremony.
Blackpink will be competing with Drake and 21 Savage, First Aid Kit, Fontaines DC and Gabriels, some of the biggest names in the pop music industry.
“Launched in 1977, the BRIT Awards with Mastercard are the annual showcase for the UK music industry,” the show’s website says.
“The BRIT Awards […] celebrate not just the biggest successes in music but also operate as an important platform to introduce and promote new talent.”
Notable past winners of the “International Group of the Year” include Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2 and more.
Winners will be announced on Feb. 11 at London’s O2 Arena.
Boy band BTS was the first Korean act to be nominated at the BRIT Awards for the International Group of the Year award, for two consecutive years in 2021 and 2022, but never won.
Blackpink is currently embarking on its world tour “Born Pink World Tour.” With seven North American and seven European cities visited last year, Blackpink began touring Asian cities starting with Bangkok on Jan. 7 and 8. Blackpink will also headline at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Hyde Park British Summer Time (BST) festival on July 2.
